About Regina Carter
Regina Carter is an American jazz violinist whose dazzling technique and wide-ranging repertoire have made her one of the most celebrated jazz violinists of her generation. A recipient of a MacArthur “genius” fellowship, she has brought the violin to the forefront of contemporary jazz.
The album cover
This framed cover is Ella: Accentuate the Positive (OKeh, 2017), Regina Carter’s tribute to Ella Fitzgerald for the 100th anniversary of her birth. Carter recasts Ella’s repertoire, including rarities like “Judy” and “I’ll Never Be Free,” through a 1950s–60s soul and blues lens. Her band is Xavier Davis on piano, Marvin Sewell on guitar, Chris Lightcap on bass and Alvester Garnett on drums, and Miche Braden and Carla Cook sing on two tracks.
